I notified Google of my sitemap and a few days later received the following error from Google...

We encountered an error while trying to access your Sitemap. Please ensure your Sitemap follows our guidelines and can be accessed at the location you provided and then resubmit.

I submitted my sitemap to http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/validate-xml-sitemap.html for validation and got the following...

Attempt to load a schema document from
http://www.google.com/schemas/sitemap/0.84
(source: docElt) for
http://www.google.com/schemas/sitemap/0.84,
failed:

Not recognised as W3C XML Schema or RDDL: html

So it appears that the sitemap.xml is broken. Can anyone help here?

So the site map is ok. The error is that the validator provider could not update their validation scheme from Google.

In the Google Webmaster tools Google has marked the sitemap with an error and shows the following...

We encountered an error while trying to access your Sitemap. Please ensure your Sitemap follows our guidelines and can be accessed at the location you provided and then resubmit. Problem detected on: Sep 21, 2009

I have resubmitted the sitemap and hopefully Google likes it.

It appears that Google has loaded the sitemap after I resubmitted it and no errors have been reported. Hopefully whatever Google didn't like wil not show again.
