Is there a way to customize the newMembersBlock other than just the number of photos that show up?

It creates a table with a fixed width of 270. I'd like to have a row of 6 images, for example, that are wider than 270.

I'd also like to change the "New Members!" and "Browse more" text.

How do I get more control over these elements? I know I can hard code specific new members but I like the idea of an auto-updating list so I don't have to babysit it with frequent changes.

Thanks!

This has been asked many times within the forum. Unless you pull new members and code it to a table for 270 yourself. Hopefully they will make it flexible but right now what you see is what they have coded which limits the numbers of new members your page will show

I'm not sure on this but there maybe a way to hack the layout using CSS, i prefer to add them manually myself personally.

I have managed to insert the New Members macro successfully in all but one of my sites, and after struggling unsuccessfully I decided it was time to ask the support team to check my site just in case there was a technical problem with the template of that particular website.

I have to say that I am very disappointed about the quality of support (not!)that I have received on this subject.

A few days ago I sent the following request to the support team:

Hi,
>Re: www.cyprusloveaffairs.com
>
>I have been trying for weeks to get the macro for the new members block to work in this website..... the macro seems to work ok in all my other sites and so I am wondering if maybe there is a technical problem with this site....
>
>The block started off with showing 4 members and now it is only showing 2 members.
>I also know for sure that an acquaintance recently joined as a member and I can see his photo on the internal veiwings, but for some reason I cannot get his photo to show on the new members block.
>
>Can you investigate and help please?
>
>Thanks

The response I received from support reads:

Thank you for the e-mail and you need to scroll the page a little down to see the members block on your site.

Best wishes,

That to me was the most unhelpful response I expected from a support team.... it tells me that my reason for asking for support was not taken on board but that I was given a bog standard response.

I have now added the new member manually, but for future updates I would like to persist with using the NewMembers macro, so would appreciate if a fellow partner would kindly take a look at my website at www.cyprusloveaffairs.com and advise.

Hi Whitelighter,

I know the newmembers block is dependant on what criteria you've set for the site, if yours is fairly narrow then the number of new members will be limited.

Also, the new members shown is system wide rather than just new members on one site.

Hello Whitelighter,

As I can see now from your page code you have added a macro and it does show 2 members on the front page and one member was added manually. What problem exactly do you think you encounter with the new members block? The number of members - 2 instead of 4 - may be cause by your filter in Member Criteria section, and not the new members block fault.

Lisa and Robert,

Thank you for your responses.

The only criteria I set for this niche site is that it shows only members from Cyprus. However, because this is a small island, I appreciate that the number of new members on the database will be quite low, and there is the added disadvantage that the majority of members do not add photos to their profiles..... this in turn means that the system will not be able to update the photos on the new members block. For this reason therefore, I do try to monitor the website by becoming a member myself and keep a lookout for any new members with photos......

For some reason I just could not get the NewMembers block to automatically update on the occasions when I did acquire new members with photos.... hence my pitiful attempt at adding one new member manually.....

I do feel this feature is a very important part of a website because if prospective viewers see the same old faces in the New Members block for weeks on end it gives an impression that not many members are interested in joining the site....

Having inserted the macro successfully in my other sites but failed to obtain successful automatic update on this site (which by the way is my "flagship" site), I was really seeking reassurance from support that the failure was not due to a coding technicality....

Regards,
Lisa
Dear Whitelighter,

Yep, I can confirm that it's not a coding - just a filtering issue.

When the member uploads the photo, not every photo gets approved for rotation on the front page - that is why sometimes when you have members with pictures they don't turn up on the front page.

If you give me some examples of the members you think have good enough pictures to be on the front page but were not marked by our moderation team, I will try and add them for the front page rotation for you.
